How do I set up an email account?
Have you ever needed an efficient way to communicate with friends and family? One way of sending and receiving messages instantly is through the mobile phone using electronic mail or ‘e-mail’ as it is popularly known. Whether for business or personal use, you can use e-mail to communicate instantly. Email is not limiting, you can type as much as you want to share, attach pictures as well as videos if need be. Some of the most common free email services include: –
- Yahoo
- Gmail
- Hotmail
- Outlook
Our demonstration below will show a step by step process of setting up your own email account.
- Choose an email service of choice as per the list above or including more that you know about. When you register for an email address, you are often registering for a variety of other services as well. All of the major email providers now offer additional services that email users can access. These additional services may include, space to store your documents online, space to share your videos with friends and other people, a calendar among other things.
- Type gmail.com in your browser. Gmail is Google Mail, and you will need a Google account to access it. Signing up for a Google account is free.
- Press the “Create an Account” button. This will open the “Create a new Google Account” page. Here you will need to enter your personal information.
- Make sure to enter your real first and last name if you are using the email address to correspond with people you know or with businesses. Please note that the name will appear in emails that you send.
- Enter a username that you will remember. Your username is your email address. Make sure that it is appropriate if you are going to be giving it to people who might take offense.
- Create a good password. Make sure that it is strong but easy to remember so that you won’t have problems reentering it. A strong password consists of at least six characters (and the more characters, the stronger the password) that are a combination of letters, numbers and symbols (@, #, $, %, etc.) if allowed.
- Enter the Captcha and agree to the Terms of Service as seen in the image below. The Captcha is what the system uses to make sure that you are an actual person and not an automated program. Also add your location
5. Press Next Step to continue. You will be taken to the “Create your profile” page. This page is the basic starting point for your Google profile. If you don’t want to create one, move on to the next step. You will still have a profile, but it will only be your name.
6. Log in to your email using your username and password that you submitted. Visit the Gmail page (www.gmail.com) to log in with your new username and password. You will be taken to the Gmail inbox.
How can you send emails?
When you have set up an email account, you need to share it with friends so that they can communicate to you.
Below are a few steps on how to send an email
- Go to your web browser and type gmail.com
2. Enter your user name and password 3. Press the button labeled ‘Compose’ on your left hand upper corner.
4. Go to the To: box. In the To: box type in the email address of the person you would like to send an email to. If there are multiple people you want to send it to, press on the Add Cc and Add Bcc button
5. Type the email subject. The subject lets your friend know what the email is going to be about. 6. Type your message in the big box below the subject box.
7. Press the send button below the message box. Wait until the person you sent the email replies. (Insert Image 6)
